So check this out... I started using an old Yakima bike roof rack I had stripped off the wife's Subaru and installed on my Jeep. Coming back from a mountain bike ride, I was thinking about how great of a time I had on my new 29er (the bike was only two weeks old). I rounded the corner of my driveway, hit the garage remote and rolled right in... well half way, when I heard a thud and scrapping sound coming from the top of my Jeep. I remember clearly thinking... NOoooooo, oh $#!+ ... Read More
650b We'll I've ridden the piss out of my new 650b now and I'm really digging the wheelsize, the frame, the fork, the steel frame, the handling... I'm really diggin the new bike! The first ride was a bit squirrely for the first couple of miles while I got use to the smaller wheel size compared to the 29er I had been riding. I finally realized that it wasn't the bike, but the fact that I was over steering. So as I got use to the snappier response and handling of this bike, I finally... Read More
My first real mountain bike was a steel frame. At the time (1994) I really liked the bike and it wasn't bad coming from the first piece of junk I had. But I wouldn't say it was a great bike... more like just a bike, nothing special what so ever! After riding it hard for 2 years, it was beaten up, had some stripped threads in the fixed seat stay cantilever post and the frame had a serious ding in it. So I was in the market for a new frame. It was 1996 and full suspension had been around for a few... Read More
After having another opportunity to ride the Pacenti Steel 650b Hardtail demo that my buddy got from Kirk Pacenti of Bikelugs.com I knew I had to have a 650b and it must be a steel frame. I was so impressed with the demo bike that I didn't waist anytime and started unloading some 29er parts and a frame so I could raise the cash I needed to get my 650b.Once my 29er frame, rims and fork sold, I contacted Kirk, supplied him with some info about myself, my riding style, weight, body specs. and withi... At 5' 6" tall, I've been real interested in the whole 650b thing. So I got to ride a demo "Pacenti" 650b steel frame SS_Belmont is speaking of this past weekend. Upon mounting the bike I felt like it had been built for me. Considering SS_Belmont and I are practically the same height and same build, I wasn't surprised that I felt comfortable on it from the first spin of the cranks. Within a couple of miles I had gotten use to the handling of a different frame, wheel size, touchy hydraulic... Read More
