Pisgah Epic Ride
Posted On 10/07/2008 | 09:17 PM by Mickey

So a bunch of us when up to Pisgah this past weekend for an Epic.

The route we took in Pisgah was really brutal!

It's still soaking in how tough it really was... But I had a great time and would do it again in a heart beat!

Honestly, I had no idea what we where getting into before we headed out for the ride. I knew it was going to be tough, but not as tough as it was. Hide-sight I would have left the helmet cam at the camp and saved the two pounds it added to my load for food. BUT... I also can't believe I rolled out of the camp and forgot all my food too. Real stupid move on my part and I sure as hell paid for that mistake.

But I got through it, got to ride some great trails and I had a great time doing it... and got to ride it with a hell of a great bunch of guys!

I'm ready to go back and hit that loop again. And now that I know what to expect, I'll be better prepared for the challenge!

I must say... that has to be the toughest trail I've ever ridden before!
And it makes Douthat seem like a joy ride!
The Pisgah loop we rode.... raised the benchmark!

The Epic we rode:
White Pines Group Camp Ground North
Ride up gravel road [477] to and...
right on (109) Pressely Cove
then right on [5098] gravel road over to Pressely Gap
and climb up (16) Black Mountain
then right on (131) Turkey Pen Gap
then take (121) South Mills River
over to (93) Mullinax
and left onto (124) Squirrel Gap
over to (23) Buckhorn Gap
back to gravel road [477] that leads back down to White Pines Group Camp Ground North.

Here's most of the Route we took... give or take a mile or two.
Elevation Gain: +8,793 Ft.

I may have the first turn listed incorrectly... still waiting on a few more details for our tour guide.

What was the route you guys ended up taking? You got some great photos! I wish I had taken the time to pull out the camera.

I'm just guessing that you walked "right on (109) Pressely Cove". Since this is a public forum and that trail is hiking only.
