Single track in Kent?
Posted On 10/11/2008 | 09:02 AM by montero24

So, this is my first attempt at writing a blog...

Who lives or works in/near Kent and wishes there was some decent single track right outside their door? I know I do. I live and work in Kent and ride everywhere but Kent, I'd like that to change. I am not a trail builder nor am I an events planner kind of guy, just a rider who has an idea.

I sent an email to Kent Parks a while back and the ball started rolling and it looks promising. We are in the planning stages and looking at several possible locations. I am working on local businesses, organizations, clubs, etc. to get on board as well. I am also looking for like-minded riders who can lend a hand (whatever way you can).

What I am asking of you all is... What do you think? Ideas? Anything really. Like I said, we're just planning right now.

I'll try to update the blog as new info comes.

Hey Mickey, thanks for sharing. I looked at IMBA's website and there's a ton of information on trail related stuff. I'd like to get my hands on their trail building guide that they sell. We'll see.

Hey Montero24,

The riders in my area are fortunate to have a good selection of trails to choose from and I myself have about 6 trails within a 45 minute drive from my home. I can image what it would be like not to have a trail near by to ride, so best of luck to you with your trail project.

I've help out on trail maintenance at a couple of the local trails near my house and helped out with construction of two trails over the years. There's definitely a proper way to build a trail so that it sustains itself better, sheds water well and flows great.

Off the top of my head, I'd recommend getting in touch with IMBA, they are a great asset to have on your side and have a collection of tips, books, videos to help with the trail construction. Who knows, you may even be able to get an IMBA grant for the trail construction to offset the cost incurred by the Kent Parks. I'd browse the IMBA site and see what they have to offer, and contact them too and see what they have to say, what they may be able to do to help get your project off the ground.

There's also a collection of IMBA videos on trail building that can shed some light on trail construction.

Good luck with your project and post up what's going on with it and how it's progressing.

Cheers Mickey
