Selling the Seven and Building the Willits
|
Should I sell the Seven Well, I have been riding an SS for 5-6yrs (prior to 29er hype) and never rode my Seven Ti Sola anymore. Yes, the Seven is a sweet ride, but after going SS, I found myself on the Sola on rare occasions. I had a Curtlo 26 SS, a ChingDa custom ti 26 SS and this is what I rode mostly. I would occasionally ask myself why I never rode the Seven and sometimes this would force me to take it out.
Introduced to the 29er SS Several years later, the 29er buzz was going around and a new (BlackSheep) LBS was in town that was fixie and SS centric. I had several discussions with Jerry Adams (I value his opinion) and Ethan (BlackSheep owner) and Jerry keep tell me how awesome it was and how 29 tracked thru the corners, roller over logs etc. Ethan let me demo several SS 29ers and I was convinced it was the way to go, so I purchased a One Nine Niner.
2 Years on the 29er SS and no going back Ok, so I sold all my 26 SS bikes! I was having a hard time departing with the Seven Ti Sola, I was looking for the yes or no answer and could not come to a decision to sell or not to sell. We were planning a trip to Douthat VA and I decided to make that this opportunity to help me make a decision. I took both bikes SS Niner and 26 Geared Seven Sola. In order to give the Sola a fair chance, I tuned it up, and put new tires on it. I was determined to make a decision to keep the Sola or let it go. I had high hopes for the Seven, but that is not what happen. I took the Seven out on one of the rides that had like a 6 mile climb, thinking that it would shine, boy was I wrong. I hated the little 26 wheels! On top of that, a pin on my left peddle broke, so I was mostly climbing with my right leg! I never touched the Seven the rest of the weekend and absolutely loved riding the SS at Douthat, it was awesome!
Seven is SOLD! When I returned from Douthat, I immediately listed it on MTBR classifieds and within hours I had calls or emails from 7 interested people. I sold the bike to the 2nd person (female) that contacted me for asking price. My Seven Sola now lives in Anchorage Alaska.
Replacing the Seven Sola Now that I sold the Sola, I thought I would build up a geared 29er, something that would be well suited for endurance races. This will give me motivation to schedule some races this year, especially since my girl is 3yrs old now. I called up Wes over at Willitsbikes.com and order me a Ti Trail King with the B2 rear and bent top tube. Wes said he would not be able to start the build until Feb, so I will be giving him a call very soon to remind him. J
