I've been thinking about converting to tubeless, but just haven't made the plunge.  I've read a few posts about tires rolling off the rim or tires burping air, but alot of those sound like they are running crazy low air pressures.

How about some feedback on conversions?  Anybody have trouble with a conversion when running normalish pressures?

Is everyone using Stan's for their conversion?

Check out my post on Rubber on Rims... everyone one of my wheel sets are tubless running Stans. I've also ran tire people said wouldn't hold air as tubless even with Stans. But I think that has to do with the fact that I run about 2+ lbs of pressure more than most of the guys I ride with on their tubelss set up. I typically set my air pressure (Fire XC pro) from 29 to 32 lbs depending on the temperture, trail conditions and distance I'll be traveling.

The guys I've been riding with for years tend to ride lower profile tire treads, therefore they run lower tire pressure I guess for better traction. I like a taller tread tire with higher air pressure... but I may just be and idiot too.

But I can say this... I thought the whole Stans thing was a joke until I started using it many years ago. Since then I've only had two flats and one burp. If you're asking me if you don't convert... you're missing out. I personally hate tubes and they only factor in as a last minute trail fix for me.

I've had a hell of a time getting my tires mounted using notubes. Not that the issue is the notubes sealant, but I think it's my tires. They mounted up great the first time I put them on, but 4 months later when I was replenishing the sealant I could get the tires to air back up. I've spent hours trying and trying. I trie two different sets of used tires and finally gave up and put on a brand new set. I got them to mount up fine.

So today I took a little time and tired one of the older set of tire on my front wheel. Just as before I could get the used tire to mount. i finally gave up again and trying to put the tire I had on it earlier today and even had difficulty getting it to air back up. It's like the tires are stretching out or something. Never had these kind of issues before and I've been using Stan's sealant for years now.

I think the real problem is my choice of rim the "Mavic TN 719 - 29er rim". I think the issue is a combination of the tires stretching out a bit and the rim not being that great for mounting up as tubless using Stan's tape and sealant.

I got a set of Stan's ZTR 355 rims, DT Swiss and I9 hubs being built up right now, so it will be interesting to see if I can get these used tires mounted up to the new wheel set easier, or if I'll have the same issues.
