Never been too crazy in counting grams when buying bike parts, but instead am always looking for something that is reasonably light without sacrificing durability.

I do pay attention to bike part weights, but for me it's all about balancing weight, durability and cost. To me it doesn't make sense to pick up something that is crazy light, but is likely to break out on the trail.  And I can't really justify blowing money on stupid light parts anyway.

Besides - I could stand to lose the weight from my gut more than from the bike!!

Yea.. I agree. I did the gram counting thing back in the late 90s. Dropped a lot of cash on it, just to have the stuff break or fail out on the trail. I've since then turned the component list down a couple of notches to save money and get more duriable parts I can count on.

For the past two years I've been counting the grams in my gut and with a change in diet have been able to drop 35 lbs. I was surprised how easy it really was to shave off the weight with a small adjustment to my diet.
