What have you found to work the best for races of different distances?  6hr, 12hr, 60 miles, 100 miles??

I've only done a couple solo - really just for the challenge - not to be anywhere near the top.  I just try to go out and ride more than I have in the past.

Looking to hear some strategies that work - ex. eat some goo every hour, and some solid food every couple hours, etc.  I know it all depends on the length of the race, and whether it's a lap race or a point to point.  So let's hear some examples of what have worked for you.

On a point to point race did you set food and gear up at stations, or did you just carry everything you needed??

You should go to Chris Davis' syndicated blog and ask him. Let me know what he says if you do... I'd like to hear his recommendations too.

Otherwise try SS Belmont, he's put a lot of thought on topics such as this.

I for one have some serious issues with heart-burn, so I tend to ride in an almost starving state (Seldom eat anything before a ride) and I usually will not eat anything on on the trail. but I am on an epic, I'll take "Bee's Honey, Bananas, peanut butter type snack bars and shot blocks.
