I had a set of I9 hubs with the direct pull spokes on a set of Stans Arche rims. They where super light and spon smoothly. The only thing I didn't like about tham is the fact that I had to keep taking the wheel set in to have the spokes tensioned until they seated completely. If you get a set of I9 wheelset, be sure to check your spokes before and after each ride for the first few rides. But you should do this with any wheelset, just good measures to insure you don't ruin a good wheelset and even worse, get hurt from wheel failure. It's my understanding that any wheelset that has direct pull spokes can lossen up a little easier than a typical J-spoke. But one the direct pull spoke is tensioned and seated properly, they rarely give you any trouble. I've had three sets of direct pull spoke wheelsets and was pleased with all three. I'd go for the I9's if I where you, but again, be sure to inspect them and have the spokes tensioned by a professional, because according to I9 they have to tensioned with some kind of spoke meter that measures the tension. As for American Classic, I've never owned a set so I can't speak for them either way. But I got a friend who has had them and liked them well enough.

Haven't owned either, but recall reading a DirtRag article where Maurice tested a set of American Classic wheels and raved about them. He's a big guy - around 230 lbs, and said that while they were super light, they were also stiff and durable.
The article said that the wheels really changed the way the bike handled due to their light weight, and that they held up to a fair amount of punishment during the test.
Hard to argue with that.

Picked up my new I9 hub'd wheelset last week, got them laced up with DTSwiss double butted spokes on Stans 355 ZTR 650b rims. Just waiting on my new 650b Pacenti frame to come in so I can get rolling. I'll let you know what I think of the I9 hubs once I get some time on them.
