One week and counting until the 9th Annual:

CHARLOTTE MOUNTAIN BIKE SERIES

On Wednesday, April 29 we will kick off the 2009 series at Col Francis Beatty
Park. Its hard to believe its been nine years since the inception of the
Charlotte Mountain Bike Series. We are truly looking forward to seeing everyone
throughout the summer at the 2009 race series. The local race series was created
to give mountain bikers the opportunity to push themselves on weekly basis at a
midweek race event.. The Summer Series also provides new mountain bikers a great
environment to compete in their first race event.

Mike Perry and the crew from Ultimate Bicycle will be at the first race
providing food for all race participants. Yum Yum!!

The Series

The Summer Series is held every Wednesday evening with registration opening at
5PM and the race starting at 6:15PM. Racers will start with their respective
category with roughly one minute between each category. The series will once
again rotate between five of your favorite local mountain bike facilities around
the Charlotte area, Col Francis Beatty, Renaissance Park, N Meck Park, Fisher
Farm and US National Whitewater Center. We will visit N Meck Park twice and
Fisher Farm Park twice during the series. Each fifth week, the series will take
a week off.

Team Competition

New for the 2009 Summer Series, the TEAM COMPETITION. The Team Competition was a
huge hit in the Winter Series so we added it to the Summer Series. Look under
"Rules" for info on the team points. We will be using the normal weekly points
and taking top five finishers from each team. Get your teams set early, points
will not be retroactive. All clubs and shop teams are encouraged to set up a
tent at each race venue.

Double Points Races

Once again, the last four races of the Summer Series will be double points. We
try to give everyone the opportunity to race and get in shape, then have an
opportunity to make up as many points as possible. We will be scoring the top 14
of 16 races during the 2009 Series.

Registration

The Summer Series is sanctioned through USA Cycling. Weekly registration is $14
for adults and $9 for juniors. If you do not have an annual USAC license, you
must purchase the one day USAC license each week for $3. If you would like to
purchase an annual USAC license, please visit
www.usacycling.org  We have also
set up registration for the whole series at

http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8578

Inclement Weather

Before you travel, please check the Summer Series website if their has been
substantial rain before an event. We will postpone any of the Summer Series
races if the trail needs more time to dry out. We usually head to the venue
around lunch on race day so if we receive rain in the afternoon, we will post
info on the web as soon as possible. You can also visit the Tarheel Trailblazers
forum at www.tarheeltrailblazers.com for info on the conditions.

Weekly and Series Prizes

At each weekly race, we give medals to the top three finishers. Prizes will be
collected from race sponsors throughout the summer. These prizes will be awarded
for the overall points accumulated throughout the summer races. Points will be
accumulated from the top 14 of the 16 race finishes. Trophies will be given to
the top 3 finishers of each category. Prizes will be given 10 deep in each
category. You must compete in a minimum of eight races to be eligible for the
overall prizes.

Sponsors

We have a great line up for the 2009 Summer Series. We could not put on such a
fun series without the support of sponsors, volunteers and race venues,
especially the incredible support of the local bike shops. Support your local
shops!

If you haven't done the Summer Series in Charlotte you've got to get out there!  Neal puts on a great series that races on several of the trails in the area.  Don't worry about not being in the best shape right now.  The weekly series allows you to build your fitness while collecting points.  It's a great way to force you to ride a little more, think about eating a little better, and think more about training rather than just riding.  Good stuff!

Just Wanna Ride!
