I've had the following rims below: Stan's Flow Stan's Arch Mavic TN719 Rim and a cheap back up set of Bontrager 29er wheels (can't remember what their called and too lazy to got look)
As for rubber I'm using: Panaracer Rampage IRD Fire Pro XC 29 Bontrager Jones AC
I've had no issues with the rubber listed above fitting to the rims listed above. Each tire fits good and with a little Stans and Stan's tape, I'm able to run all the tires tubeless with no burping or tire roll-off. As for the tightest fit... that would be the Rampage. They popped right into place and sealed up in seconds. The other two tires took about 3 minutes to seal up with the Stan's sealant.
As for the tread, I like the IRD Fire Pro XC 29 best. But all three tires stick the dirt conditions I ride in great.

How well do the XC Pro tires roll? Looks like a great tread for more wet condition. I would typically ride a more shallow tread in the summer months, but having a little more meat to the tread in the winter when the trails tend to stay more damp would be a bonus.
I need all the help I can get so I need a tire that rolls really well. I've got enough to bog me down with my current fitness - don't want my tires working against me!

As for speed, there's definitely better rolling tires out there. But I have no complaints with the Fire XC pro and it's my first choice of rubber for all my wheelsets. Don't get me wrong, they are not a slow rolling tire either. The Fire XC pro tires are more of a great all round tire and that's what I like. I build my bikes for AM style riding, because I'd rather go to the mountains for a ride any day of the year. Every piece of gear I have, use and buy is chosen for it's ability to hold up and perform through all kinds of conditions, right down to the shorts and shoes I wear. The Fire XC pro is a great AM tire and I've been running them on all my bikes for about 6 years total. The one thing that stands out about the Fire XC Pro and why I chose over all the other tires I've ever used is it's ability to stick a corner without breaking traction. It simply carves right through a corner better than any other tire I've ever had and since I tend to hammer into and through corners, I like the fact that I've had considerably less washouts since I've been using the Fire XC Pro. In fact there's been times while hammering through a corner where I hit a small tree limb or rock in the trail that was completely unavoidable... I knew without a doub that I was going to crash as a results. And as the front or rear tire hit the trail debris the wheel washed and I was going down... yet right as the tire cleared the debris the tread bit in to the eather the tire dug in and I railed right out of the crash and kept on truckin. These thires have definitely pulled me through some close calls with their ability to stick the line.
I have had faster rolling tires and really liked them a lot, but I noticed I could hammer through a corner as I normally would, but instead had to ride through it. I tend to really dig tight and techincal areas, I really dig switch backs and fast turns and burms. This is one of the areas I've always excelled at and therefore the Fire XC pro is my tire of choice for this style of riding. I've also never had a flat with a Fire XC pro... NEVER. May be just luck, but I doubt it. The Bontrager Jones ACX tires are nice too and I really like them a lot. They're a little faster rolling and stick corners almost as good as the Fire XC pro. I'll definitely buy another set of these for my hardtail when the time comes for new rubber.
The Rampage are beefy and like a big brother to the Fire XC pro. They handle about the same as the Fire XC pro, but they are heavier and I can feel it in the tire when I'm rolling down the trail. I got these, because at the time you couldn't get the Fire XC pro in 29er, but just as soon as IRD released their Fire XC pro version I stripped the Rampage off and replaced them with a set of Fire XC pros. The Rampage is a great tire, but it's a little more than what I need out of a tire.
If you're looking for a fast Charlotte tire, I'd look else where, but if you want a great all round tire you can't go wrong with the Fire XC pro.

Panaracer Fire XC pro are the best tires ever. some other good ones are Panaracer spike and kenda klaw xt (cheap and grippy but wear fast) Some good rims are WTB dual duty FR and mavic x221, i do downhill/ smaller freeride and they are still perfect.

Okay here's an update on a set of none tubeless tires converted to a tubeless system using Stans sealant. I got a set of Bontrager Jones AC tires back in August of 07, mounted them up on a wheelset converted to tubeless and they sealed up great with little effort. Once mounted they held air perfectly for 7 months (Note: I did air them down once and replaced the Stans sealant 4 months after the first install). Then I had my bike wreck, and wasn't able to ride for a while. After about a month of the bike just sitting with no use, no attention the front tire had lost it's air and was completely flat. Once I recovered from my head injury and was ready to ride again, I tired to air the front tire back up with no luck. I put new Stans sealant in the tire, soaped it up just like Stan instructs with no luck. I spent about 2 hours trying to get the Bontrager Jones AC tire aired up and finally gave up and put on my Panaracer Rampage tires. The Rampage tires mounted up in seconds. I then tried to put the Bontrager Jones AC tires on a second wheelset and had no luck at all. The tires had stretched out and simply would not seal up. Today, one of the guys I ride with mentioned having the same issues with the Bontrager Jones AC tires. They mounted perfectly the first time, but had stretched out over the course of about 8 months and he couldn't get his aired up either. So if you're considering getting a set of "Bontrager Jones AC tires" be warned, you may have trouble using them as tubeless tires over the long haul.
